Hwang Woo Suk Suspended By Seoul National University
Hwang Woo Suk, the disgraced stem-cell scientist has been suspended by the Seoul National University on 10 February 2006, along with six other researchers. This measure was taken as the persons had falsified data with regard to their research work. The seven professors are banned with immediate effect from teaching at the university or conducting research. They may face permanent dismissal in the future once the university's disciplinary committee makes a final decision, according to a university source.

Lead author Hwang and the six co-authors were involved in faking research to claim that they had produced a stem cell line taken from cloned embryos and to have produced individually tailored stem cells. Both studies were published in the journal Science in 2004 and 2005.The university's investigations found in January that the results of this research had been falsified. Hwang handed in his resignation letter to the College of Veterinary Medicine in December. Prosecutors are also conducting an investigation and Hwang is likely to face embezzlement charges for the misuse of government funds.
