Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss said that the government would take strict action against those found guilty of using stem cell therapy as a treatment modality.

The government has received information that some of the private fertility clinics are conducting embryonic stem cell therapy.

Hence it has ordered the enquiry and said that severe measures will be taken against those found violating the rules.

One such fertility clinic at East Delhi is said to have conducted the stem cell therapy on many patients including the former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Ajit Jogi.

The enquiry has already started against this clinic and once it is proved action would be taken against those responsible for violating the ethical norms.

Since the use of embryonic stem cell in the world scenario is restricted, the claims of this private clinic are very doubtful.

The government is asked the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) to probe in to the matter and has already issued a notice to the clinic.

After receiving the report of the ICMR the government would decide on the appropriate action to be taken against the clinic.

If the clinic is found to be guilty the Medical Council of India would be asked to cancel the doctor's license to practice.
