As many as 1.107 million fowl have been killed in Turkey with the object of combating the spread of the bird flu infection in the country. This has been revealed by the Turkish National Coordination Center for Bird Flu. The infection has been detected in as many as 13 provinces in the country, while 28 provinces have reported suspected cases. The provinces where the bird flu has been detected are Van, Aydin, Bursa, Istanbul, Bitlis, Yozgat, Ankara, Sanliurfa, Erzincan, Igdir, Erzurum, Agri, and Kars.

As many as 21 people in the country have been infected by the disease which has already claimed four causalities. Medical professionals are wary of the virus mutating into a form which can be transmitted from one human being to another, which may well result in a pandemic across the world resulting in millions of causalities. The farmers whose birds have been culled are being paid compensation by the Turkish Government.
