Experts at the prude university say that the long winter might make people depressed and hence provide them with useful tips that will keep away their winter blues.

Jane Kinyon, a clinical professor in the School of Nursing, reports that it is very common to suffer from mild irritation and depression during the winter. His is mainly attributed to low sunlight and freezing temperatures. But this should not dampen one’s spirit and discourage their outdoor activities.

Apart from taking the right exercise schedule, proper diet and sleep one should also involve in various activities like going out for a walk, visiting friends etc.

The best way to improve the atmosphere at home during winters is to increase or brighten the house using lot of lights. Light is very good in combating our depression and helps to raise our spirits.

One has to try and look in to the positive aspects of winter and make it more lively and fun. The nature is very beautiful despite the seasonal variations. In case of winter it is the snow covered trees and houses. It is always better to step outside and admire the beauty rather than staying indoors and feeling groopy. Spring cannot be appreciated if winter does not precede it.

Some people adjust to the seasonal changes and get over the blue within a short period of time whereas others who are prone to mood swings have to seek help from a doctor. This kind of disorder, which disrupts one’s life causing sadness and depression, is called the seasonal affective disorder. These people may require treatment to come out of the winter disorder. Therapy like usage of light boxes, which emit strong light, can be helpful.
