Researchers from Carnegie Mellon University have reported in the Journal Psychological bulletin that having positive emotions and being happy protects from chronic illness and gives better health and long life. This research study was led by Professor Sheldon Cohen team who found that emotions had a direct impact on health as they feel that it enhances the immune system and also protects from psychological stress. The researchers feel that interpreting literature studies are very difficult to distinguish between the effects of positive and negative emotions, as they are mostly living alone or independently and they are not sure about their long life is due to their being sad or happy.
