Protein Complex prevents cancer
Rae 1-Nup98 are two protein complexes which is found to protect cell from transforming into aneuploidy state, which has an abnormal number of chromosomes leading to cell instability which leads to cancerous cells. Professor Jan Van Deursen and his research team from Mayo Clinic have found that the two protein complex Rae1 - Nup98 have proofing capacity which maintains the euploidy state in the cell and prevents the formation of aneuploidy state.

Prof. Deursen has published the results of the work in the Journal Nature and they feel that the new discovery will help in the development of new approaches for cancer treatment as most of the cancers involve aneuploidy cells which plays a role in most cancers by making the cells more unstable leading to uncontrolled cell growth.
