Report submitted by Age Concern and London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine as said that old people aged above 65 years are having an increased threat for disease due to poor diet and inadequate physical activity.

The report found that old age people are not spending the required amount of money on healthy food, leisure centre visits, dental and eye care costs and are not undergoing the recommended 30 minutes of moderate exercise. The authors feel that it is the duty of the Government to ensure that pension amount given to old aged people should be increased so that they can afford a healthy life and would have complete access to health and leisure facilities.

Spokesperson for the Health Department said, “Major progress has been made in promoting health, with increased uptake of vaccination against flu, breast cancer screening and smoking cessation and the councils, together with the local National Health Services and other partners, are implementing plans to enhance the health, independence and well-being of older people as active citizens in their local communities."
