US politicians have petitioned Hollywood movie executives to add anti-smoking public service announcements to all DVD releases which shows stars smoking.

According to contactmusic.com, Maryland Attorney General Joseph Curran initiated the petition after noting scientific research that suggests, 'Young people who watch smoking in movies are more likely to begin smoking.'

He urged other attorney generals to also sign their names on a letter he sent to movie executives.

The American Legacy Foundation is funding a new anti-smoking public service announcement. Curran hopes studio bosses will add this to films which feature smoking scenes.
