HIV/AIDS awareness education will be soon part of the school curriculum from Class IX in all schools as 35% of HIV patients in India are below the age of 25. The new curriculum would be made compulsory and this program is an initiative taken by the Human Resource Department of Government of India and National AIDS Control Organization.

The report developed by the ministry has also made it compulsory to train teachers on sex education and also understand and explain the students about transmission of HIV and to prevent any social discrimination of children’s affected by AIDS.

The Ministry said, "We have included HIV/AIDS education in the new curriculum framework for teacher training and has asked the NCERT to look into how the new system could be incorporated in the study curriculum."
