Need for Psychotherapy for Delhi Blast Victims

Victrims of Delhi blasts may have to go for psychological treatment in order to get rid of the impact the incident has created as many of them find difficult to erase it mentally.

Psychiatrist warn that the people who witnessed the blasts - which left around 60 dead and 210 injured - may need counselling and psychotherapy to get out of the trauma.

These people are already suffering from acute stress but the real impact of the incident will be felt after a few days, said Monika Chib, senior psychiatrist at the Indraprastha Apollo Hospital.

The post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), as it is called in medical terms, will have its impact once the tragedy sinks in, she said.

Images of the horrible incident they do not want to recount may fly past them, the psychiatrist said.

Chib, who is treating two blast victims, told IANS that these people would then need counselling.
