Doctor demonstrates `psychic surgery'

Dr. Narendra Nayak of Kasturba Medical College recently did an Orbito at Jayangar National College at Bangalore. The `psychic surgery' exposure programme was aimed at clearing confusion in the minds of the audience about psychic surgery and explode the myths involved in such treatments.

Dr Nayak explained that psychic surgeons usually perform surgeries on persons with pot bellies. He sank his index finger into the stomach of the volunteer from the audience. After the impression of cutting the muscles was created, the person admitted feeling some sensation within. The finger immersed into a half inflated balloon will create a feeling of being cut open, Nayak demonstrated.

"Psychic healers then produce chicken liver and flesh like things bought from the market to create an impression of removing blood clots and unwanted growth in the body. In such surgeries, the supporters of the pranic healer are those who spread messages of success in surgeries," he added.

This surgery was organised by the Karnataka state unit of Breakthrough Science Society and the state unit of Medical Service Centre.Convener of Breakthrough Science Society G. Satish Kumar said it was important to inculcate scientific temper in people on a daily basis. Dr Gangadhar, general secretary, Medical Service Centre, said there would be no need for surgeons if psychic surgeries are scientific.

Nayak will perform the same surgery for public benefit at Bangalore Medical College, at the Kempe Gowda Institute of Medical Sciences and at NGO Hall in Cubbon Park in the coming week.

Recently, psychic surgeon Alex L. Orbito from Philippines visited Bangalore and exhibited his "power of healing" on some of the elected representatives and common people at the cost of Rs 5,000 per patient.

Some of the physically handicapped people and others with various ailments who had gathered in the city for his treatment had to return unhappy as a city court slapped a notice on him and the organisers of the event.

Orbito had said that with `negative energy' flowing, he could not perform more than the five or six surgeries he had done on the first day of his visit. He left the city without anybody's knowledge and the organisers have remained elusive to date.

The police have said that Orbito is not a proclaimed offender to arrest him from another country. "There are charges against him and we will arrest him when he comes next to Bangalore," they added.
