In order to provide quick relief from post pregnancy depressions, health care workers have tried to identify women who may be more vulnerable to this type of depression and taken preventive measures to avoid the condition. However a recent study by the researcher of University of Toronto, Canada who had reviewed 15 randomized control trials on 7,697 women had said that it is possible to prevent post partum depression but the treatment meted out to the pregnant women after delivery is the most effective of all the treatments of such kind of depression.

Scientist has found that preventive strategies applied before delivery had resulted in reduced after delivery depressions by about 19%. However the most successful treatment strategy was assessment of the mental health of the patients and intensive support provided by the medical professional before delivery in such cases.

The researcher from the study thinks that care given after delivery to the mother must be made flexible to her needs in order to prevent post partum depression often works out as the most effective strategy. The medical professionals should be able to provide structured help within first four weeks after the delivery in order to have the maximum preventive effect.
