Risk of deep vein thrombosis less in people who were flight stockings when flying
Graduated compression stockings that are worn during long hours of flying can significantly reduce the risk of deep vein thrombosis.

Researchers of the study had compared nine studies of nearly 2500 passengers who had flown long distance in airlines. The researchers had carried out the research where they had advised all the participants of the study to walk or exercise regularly, drink water, avoid salty food and do not stop leg movements in spite of carrying bulky baggage in order to avoid deep vein thrombosis that can affect them.

Deep-vein thrombosis or the formation of a blood clot inside a blood vessel is often a condition that affects people who has been dehydrated, or sitting or lying in the same position for long, like the patients in the hospitals.

The research reports showed that only two of the 1237 people who wore the graduated stockings suffered from deep vein thrombosis in comparison with the 46 of the 1245 people who did not wear the stockings during the flights.

The report is published in the current edition of Journal of Advanced Nursing.
