A boost to quit smoking

Smoking is injurious to health, especially to the heart.Improvements in heart disease risk factors are measurable within weeks of quitting smoking. It's known that smoking increases the risk of heart disease. The main culprit is carbon monoxide in cigarette smoke, which raises cholesterol levels, white blood cell counts and creates other heart disease risk factors. Each 1% increase in carbon monoxide levels raises the risk of tobacco-related death by 22%.

Researchers in Texas have studied 33 people as they gave up smoking over a four month period to see how these risk factors declined. Nine weeks into the study, the subjects had reduced their smoking by an average of 50%. This was accompanied by a 17% reduction in carbon monoxide. Even more dramatic improvements were seen when the subjects quit smoking altogether.

Thus this is an encouraging news, because it shows that your health can start to benefit almost straight away. Hence this can motivate people to quit smoking.
