Researchers in Texas have studied 33 people as they gave up smoking over a four month period to see how these risk factors declined. Nine weeks into the study, the subjects had reduced their smoking by an average of 50%. This was accompanied by a 17% reduction in carbon monoxide. Even more dramatic improvements were seen when the subjects quit smoking altogether.
