A study by the computational neuroscientist of Vanderbilt University have developed a new computer model that will provide an insight into neural circuits that play a role in development. The computer model traces the neural circuits that make us apply previously learned rules on new situations and help in self-control.
The researchers feel that the new use of technology in understanding developmental process will also help the scientists in understanding the role played by nature or heredity on nurture or environment.
The computer model can also conduct a battery of tests to find out any injuries to the frontal lobe of the brain. With simulation of a frontal lob injury, the computer model can also be able to predict the kind of behavior changes that can happen due to injury caused in the frontal lobe.
It is a well-known fact that the human ability to behave in any situations appropriately, also called cognitive control, resides in the pre frontal lobe of the brain. This are develops more slowly and only reaches maturity when human beings reach adolescence.
The research is published in the current edition of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
