In two researches presented in the annual meeting of American Society of Clinical Oncology had emphasized the importance of having low fat diet to reduce the risk of breast cancer.
Researchers had studied the recurrence or relapse of cancer in postmenopausal women with primary breast cancer who were given a low fat diet versus the same who had a normal diet. The other dietary interventions used was nutrition counseling sessions done at regular intervals. The age of the women under the study were between 48 and 79 years of age. The women were under observation for a period of five years. All type women in the study had undergone standard breast cancer management procedures like mastectomy or lumpectomy plus radiation, tamoxifen for ER positive, chemotherapy for ER negative, and optional chemotherapy for ER positive cases
AdvertisementThe results of the study shows that reduction of dietary fat can reduce breast cancer relapse risk by about 24% for women in the early stages of breast cancer, when compared to women of the same condition having a normal diet.
The results of the studies showed that changes in the lifestyle with more of low fat diets could go a long way in reducing the risk of recurrence of cancer in breast cancer patients.
