Lifestyle changes can affect cardiovascular diseases for better in as early as eight weeks, say a studypresented at the Sixth Annual Conference on Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology.
Combined effect of personalized exercise regimen with Mediterranean type diet may bring about serious changes in vascular function and effectiveness for people who have a high risk of cardiovascular disease.
Mediterranean type of diet includes fruits, vegetables, bread and other forms of cereals, potatoes, beans, nuts and seeds. Olive oil serves as an important source of fat. The diet also includes low to moderate amounts of dairy, fish and poultry.
The diet must be matched with physical activities suited to the requirement of the individual and must be adapted as a family lifestyle rather than a treatment or therapy, to have the maximum effect. The trials of such a form of diet and activities were called as Staged Nutrition and Activity Counseling trials.
The trials successfully helped in reducing hypertension and high blood pressure in people. For quite some, it acted as an agent for reducing weights also although this wasn't the main goal of the trial.
