Researchers say that exercising may bring relief from chronic back pain to long-term sufferers

After review of literature and observing the results of trials, researchers of Institute for Work & Health in Canada have found that exercise as a therapy is effective for reducing pain and increasing the physical abilities of people who suffer from chronic low back pain. They have summarized data collected from 61 trials that had compared exercise therapy with placebo, no treatment, conservative management, or another exercise group. The most exercise regime for these patients is the stretching and strengthening exercises that the people performed routinely.

In sub acute low back pain it is possible to improve some functions of the muscles with the help of graded activity program, however the effect of other forms of exercising on this type of condition seems to be a little unclear.

In acute low pack pain people have reported the efficiency of exercise therapy as ineffective as any other forms or treatment or no treatment at all.

The research report will be published in the May issue of Annals of Internal Medicine.
