Men who takes risk is unlikely to impress women

Men always have appreciated the value of taking risks as very macho and manly. A recent study in the journal Evolution and Human Behavior had pointed out that although men who take risk get more friends, women do not like to have them as spouses.

In the study carried out by the psychologists of University of Maine, males and females evaluated the attractiveness of risk takers as potential mates, and friends. Tasks were divided into heroic risk taking and non-heroic risk taking tasks on which people were asked to decide for same sex friends and opposite sex mates.

The results of the study show that males preferred non-heroic risk takers as mates and heroic risk takers as friends. While females preferred risk avoiders both as friends of similar sex as well as deciding for a mate from opposite sex.

So why do males prefer taking risks to impress and females don’t get sufficiently impressed to marry the risk taking male?

One reason may be that by taking part in risky ventures men are constantly trying to prove their fitness as a potential to be a deserving mate. However, females in following their inherent role as a homemaker prefer men who are cautious and thus may seem more stable.
