A report in the Journal of Applied Physiology says that it is possible to reduce high blood pressure through the use of acupuncture .
Scientists, in an attempt to study the effects of acupuncture on sympathetic excitatory cardiovascular responses, had found out the result from the reactions in anesthetized Sprague-Dawley rats. The results were obtained when the rats were subjected to thirty minutes of low current, low frequency electro-puncture.
Acupuncture is one of the traditional healing techniques acknowledged by WHO as a form of prevalent alternative treatment to clinical conditions. Acupuncture means to puncture with a needle. In a broad sense the process includes traditional body puncturing with needles, as well as some variants like moxibustion, electric acupuncture or electro-puncture, laser acupuncture etc.
Researchers of the new study reported that the rats that were artificially stimulated to have high blood pressure had about 44% lessening of their blood pressure when electro-puncture was applied. However there was no significant change in the technique was changed to normal acupuncture.
The scientists are of the opinion that the results are promising enough to begin human trials on the effectiveness of the process.
