Study participants who used metformin without diet and exercise also reduced their risk, by 31%. Professor of medicine at Harvard University and president of The Endocrine Society Dr.William Crowley agreed with the experts that it is common sense to have made up this study.

The Diabetes Prevention Program was conducted at 27 centers nationwide and involved more than 3000 participants. Participants ranged in age from 25 to 85 and generally sustained a 5% weight loss throughout the 3-year study. In this era of life style modification , these kind of studies do help the population at risk to come out of it.
