Chennai Plays Hosts To The Diabetes World Congress

The fourth world congress for diabetes begins in Chennai today. The theme for the congress is Prevention of diabetes and its complications and over 1000 doctors and researchers will attend the event from 38 countries across the world.

The world congress for diabetes is held once in every three years, since the time of its inception in Copenhagen in 1996.

Diabetes Research Center of the city is hosting this year’s three-day event that draws support from World Health Organization, International Diabetes Federation in Brussels, World Diabetes Federation of Copenhagen and US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Diabetes, the disorder that arises due to body’s inability to breakdown blood sugar, is also an important precondition for cardiovascular problems. India having one of the largest numbers of diabetic population of the world, an event of this magnitude is expected to debate and bring into open major ways to prevent diabetes and related clinical conditions. About 150 papers from across the globe are going to be presented in this theme itself.

The organizers of the event hopes to be able to bring to limelight enough new methods that will help in making the health policies of the country.
