A study from England has found that people who commit sucide have heavier brains than most people.
The human brain normally weighs about 1400g in men and 1300g in women, but can drop in weight with some diseases like Alzheimers, Schizophrenia, Parkinson’s and alcoholism.Emad Salid from Liverpool University and George Tadros from the Northern Birmingham Mental Health Trust were the first to report on this unusual weight increase in sucide victims.
A comparative brain study was made between people who died a natural death with those of people who commited sucide. Results concluded that the brain was significantly lighter in the natural cause than the sucide group.
A theory states that depression causes the brain to swell and these people with depression and sucidal attitude had heavier adrenal glands.
The researchers said all suicide victims should have a routine post-mortem examination to check for oedema (fluid collection in the brain),a thorough brain chemistry and the state of brain receptors at death so as tofocus further light on this puzzle.
