Thousands of people made a beeline for guru Ramdev's six-day yoga camp here that began Thursday.
A ground has been specially prepared on the outskirts of this popular tourist destination for the week-long course that ends May 22.
Organisers said some 10,000 people, including Himachal Pradesh governor V.S.Kokje, attended the first day of the course.
The state transport department has made special arrangements to run buses to take yoga enthusiasts to the camp.
A day before the course, Ramdev took a stroll on Shimla's downtown mall and mingled with hundreds of locals and tourists. He expressed concern at the increase in liquor and drug consumption in the state.
