Treatment for Sars patients refused

by Medindia Content Team on Apr 24 2003 12:01 PM

SARS victims have been refused treatment in Indian clinics where staffs worried about catching the disease. In Pune patients have been moved to government hospital. Private medical centre closed their clinic and refused to provide treatment for SARS infected patients. The patients include a bride, her mother and her brother who had flown in for the ceremony from Indonesia via Singapore. There were also people who attended the wedding, who were quarantined later to check if they developed symptoms of the disease. The hospital staff were panic striken for treating patients. A private hospital in Pune shut itself down to remain in isolation.

Doctors in India have complained that authorities were treating Sars too casually and warned the disease could spread swiftly among the country's more than one billion people, most of whom have inadequate health care.
