Raipur: Former Chhattisgarh's chief minister Ajit Jogi was hospitalized here with chest pain early Monday, hours after he was arrested in connection with the murder of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) treasurer Ramavatar Jaggi.

"He (Jogi) was brought to Raipur at 4.10 a.m. Monday and admitted to Escorts Hospital as he complained of severe chest pain," Jogi's family sources told IANS.

"A team of senior cardiologists are monitoring his condition, but he is definitely not in good health," the sources added.

Jogi was arrested Sunday in Gandai town of Rajnandgaon district, where the wheelchair-bound Congress leader was on a Lok Sabha by-poll campaign trip, after a court here issued an arrest warrant earlier in the day.

Jaggi, then treasurer of the state's NCP unit, was shot dead in front of a police station in this capital. His son Satish Jaggi registered a police complaint an hour after the shootout. Satish named Ajit Jogi, then the chief minister, and his son Amit as prime accused.

After the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government came to power, the state government handed over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in December 2003.

The CBI arrested Amit and his two close associates in 2005 on charges of plotting the murder. He was kept for 10 months at the Raipur central jail and released on bail in May 2006.
