Likely reason which makes analgesics work against Alzheimer's

Pain killers like ibuprofen or naproxen have long been known to help people protect themselves against Alzheimer's disease. Now, researchers from the University of California have found a possible reason as to why this might be so. These scientists had previously developed a marker molecule called FDDNP that was used to detect the presence of plaque. Plaque is a protein deposit in the brain that is the hallmark of the Alzheimer's disease. The researchers have now used this marker to find out that the analgesics tend to bind themselves to these plaques in the brain and at times even prevent them from forming. This new research, apart from providing evidence for the protective effect of anti-inflammatory pain-killers has also brought to light the benefits of using FDDNP technology for investigating new vaccines and drugs against Alzheimer's disease.
