by Jyothsna on Feb 12 2007 11:28 AM

A twenty year old Indonesian woman is reported to have died due to bird flu in Indonesia. This was disclosed by Nyoman Kandun, director general of communicable disease control of the Indonesian health ministry.

This is the sixty fourth casualty due to bird flu in this nation which is the highest for any country in the world.

According to the health ministry, this woman had contacted the H5N1 virus from a dead chicken in her yard. Investigations are currently going to confirm this. The human incidence of bird flu is always attributed to their contact with the infected fowl.

Avian influenza or the bird flu is being reported in many Asian countries like Japan, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam in the recent months after a year’s respite. This is basically ascribed to the practice of keeping their chickens in their back yard.

In Indonesia, the management of bird flu is difficult due to poor health care facilities, communications and transportation of infrastructural facilities.
