Meningococcal Disease in Burkina Faso
From 1 January to 31 January 2007, the Ministry of Health reported 789 suspected cases including 96 deaths (case-fatality rate, 12.2%) in the country.

Ouargaye district has an attack rate above the epidemic threshold and another three districts, Banfora, Batie and Sapouy are in the alert phase.

Cerebrospinal fluid specimens have tested positive for Neisseria meningitidis serogroup A by latex test.

The Ministry of Health is planning to conduct a vaccination campaign in Ouargaye this week.
