Starbucks are now determined to stop the use of dairy products containing the recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBGH) at all of their stores. Several dairy products like milk, half and half, whipped cream, eggnog etc., which contain rBGH are no longer in use in Starbucks - Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Arkansas, Montana, North Carolina and Nebraska stores.
It has decided to switch over to non-rBGH milk products to eliminate trans-fatty acids from food products at many of their stores across the U.S. Though Starbucks claim that prices of the products will not raise at this time, the likelihood for a future price increase seems inevitable.
The rBGH milk products are created by supplements, which are given to cows during lactation for producing higher quantity of milk. Appropriate channels in the U.S. approved the supplement more than 10 years ago.
It is believed that rBGH only works on cows, not on humans; however, controversies still exist about the effects of rBGH on humans. No statistical data has indicated that rBGH has adversely affected either humans or cows, but critics claim that not enough research has been undertaken to prove how it affects humans.
