India’s middle-aged generation is waking up to alarming facts; we are the ‘diabetes capital’ of the world with a population of 37 million diabetics.

Small wonder that dessert manufacturers like ice cream makers, are finding themselves at the edge of a desert with people beginning to put the brakes on sweets.

Amul, one of India s leading milk, dairy products and ice cream makers is the apex body of 2.9 million milk producers, partners of the Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd.

Amul has announced the creation of a range of sugar free, low fat probiotic desserts created for the health conscious.

The Amul probiotic diabetic delight range includes frozen desserts and ice cream. Zero calorie sweeteners like fructo-oligo saccharide and sucralose have replaced sugar. And 50 percent of fat has been cut down.

Fructo-oligo saccharide are soluble dietary fiber that improve the mineral absorption and bone health in addition to increasing the disease fighting ability of the body.

The word ‘probiotic’ denotes the live culture of beneficial bacteria added. These have a multiple range of benefits like aiding digestion, strengthening the immune system, fighting allergic reactions and are also effective in controlling travelers' diarrhea.
