by Savitha C Muppala on Jan 6 2007 3:27 PM

The world’s biggest soft drink brand and food giant-Coco Cola and Nestle have come together to manufacture a new drink called Enviga, endowed with extracts of natural green tea, caffeine and plant micronutrients. This is expected to hit the market next month in America with the USP- help consumers shed excess weight.

According the chief scientist of Coke, ‘Enviga’ is capable of enhancing the number of calories burnt. The soft drink company claims that detailed studies have shown that gulping 3 cans of this drink over a 24 hour period can cause an expenditure of 60 to 100 calories in a healthy person of normal weight.

Drinks analyst at Sanford Bernstein, gave a realistic picture of what to expect; statistics show that only one in three new soft drinks in the market really take-off. As a testimony to this, are the recent failures from Coke - Vanilla Coke and Coca-Cola C2. Whether the claims made by the popular brand are just hype will be known in a matter of time.
