by Savitha C Muppala on Dec 17 2006 3:06 AM

There is some good news in the air. To tackle obesity in school children, and inculcate the practice of yoga from very young, a proposal to include yoga in the school curriculum was put forward, which has received the green signal from the HRD ministry.

While announcing this piece of good news, Union minister A Ramadoss said,"Yoga can go a long way in reducing hypertension and diabetes. We are at present identifying teachers who would take yoga classes. We will also start training teachers to conduct health and lifestyle classes in schools.”

The minister also reiterated the commitment of the planning commission to initiate the first national programme to prevent cardio vascular disease (CVD), stroke and diabetes.
