For those who would rather shake a leg that skip their favorite food, there's good news.
Scientists at the Metropolitan Leeds University and the University of Hull have come out with results of a survey that show you need not be skinny, to be fit.
Sixty-two women classified as clinically obese were asked to participate in a series of activities such as aerobics, tai chi and circuit classes. They were taught skills like cooking, recognizing symptoms of satiation or fullness, how to read food labels and most importantly not to diet, but to eat in moderation. Though the average weight loss was not much after a year into the study, the women were significantly fitter, less stressed and observed to be having a better self-image. There was also a decrease in levels of cholesterol, blood pressure and heart rate.
According to Dr. Haslan, clinical director of the National Obesity Forum 'You can improve fitness without losing weight and improve your lifestyle as well as reduce risk for cancer, stroke and heart disease'.
