Apollo hospitals have joined hands with the NGO, Madras Round Table 1, in an altruistic gesture to offer treatment for poor children with heart diseases. The novel partnership has been named ‘Save A Child’s Heart’ (SACH).
With the motto ‘Save one child per day’ they aim to give underprivileged children in Tamilnadu born with heart diseases appropriate treatment. SACH aims to assist early diagnosis and availability of monetary assistance for diagnostic purposes and surgical interventions. Honorable Minister for Electricity of Tamilnadu State government Arcot N Veerasamy pledged a month’s salary towards this praiseworthy initiative, at the launch of this programme. He called for more philanthropists to come forward to generate the funds required to make such a noble project successful.Dr. M.R Girinath the chief cardiovascular surgeon of Apollo Hospital who heads the team of doctors from Apollo Hospitals, informed that according to latest reports, 3-8 children out of every thousand live births are born with heart disorders and two-thirds of them are liable to die before they cross their first birthday. Compounding to the poverty, the lack of medical insurance cover for young children with congenital disorders often snatches away the opportunity for timely correction of simple defects surgically which later on become difficult to treat commented Dr. Girinath.
Project SACH will enable the dedicated team of doctors from Apollo. Hospitals to reach out to the under privileged children now with high standards comparable to treatment offered by the best hospitals globally. Sunita Reddy the Group Finance Director of Apollo Hospitals also, spoke about the initiative at the launch of the project.
