Importance of soy protein in your diet

The benefits of consuming soy protein has been less explored. According to doctors at the Mayo Clinic, there are many ways in which you can use the high protein content of soy in your diet. Soy bean protein is a useful food because it is low in saturated fat and cholesterol. If one wants to reduce the total calories in your diet, doctors feel that it may be a good notion to replace soy for some common animal foods, like meat or dairy products.

If you are not used to soy products, the experts have many suggestions. Tofu, for example, is a form of soy that can be used in stir-fries, gravies, dishes or scrambled like eggs. It can also be used in dishes that call for meat.

Soy milk can be used in cereal, in coffee, or to make a gruel. But make sure that it is fortified with calcium and B vitamins so you don't miss out. Soy flour can be substituted for up to 30 per cent of the flour in baked goods. It is true there has been controversy over soy supplements and whether these might increase rather than decrease breast cancer risk. Doctors have finally observed that there is no risk with soy foods.
