Madhya Pradesh is gearing up for yet another anti-polio drive Sunday even as new polio cases - three in a span of six months - have been detected.
During the drive, pulse polio drops would be administered to nearly 10 million children of up to five years of age, according to health officials here.The latest case of polio was confirmed by the National Polio Surveillance Unit (NPSU) Nov 4 when Ajay, a 19-month-old baby in Jhabua district, was found to be afflicted with the disease, said state health commissioner Rajesh Rajora.
What has nonplussed health authorities is that the victim is said to have received multiple doses of polio vaccines - four during pulse polio drives and three as per routine immunisation.
Similarly, 14-month-old Shivani of Bhind district was detected with the virus in September and seven-month-old Kapil of Chhatarpur district in June despite receiving pulse polio drops.
A pulse polio campaign had been undertaken in Bhind Sep 10 along with 15 other districts of the state and 300,000 children were given pulse polio drops.
A special campaign was conducted in Chhatarpur and six other districts June 25 and Aug 8.

The state administration has set up 62,991 polio booths besides 2,248 transit booths and 1,778 mobile teams. In order to make the latest campaign successful, 9,886 supervisors and 161,817 workers have been appointed.
