Another fast bowler Mohammed Asif, who was also given a one-year ban by the same doping tribunal, filed his appeal to the tribunal Monday.

Both the players were banned from all forms of cricket by a PCB doping tribunal after it was revealed that they had taken the banned steroid Nandrolone. The tests were conducted by the PCB in September and both players missed the Champions Trophy in India following the test results.

According to the newspaper's sources, Shoaib has hired the services of renowned lawyer Abid Hasan Manto while Asif has former Test cricketer Aftab Gul defending him.

Board official said Shoaib's appeal was received Tuesday evening and now the drugs appeal tribunal, headed by Justice Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim, would convene soon to consider both the appeals.

The appeals tribunal also includes former Test cricketer Hasib Ahsan and Danish Zaheer, who is the president of the Pakistan Sports Medicine Association.
