by Neela George on Oct 16 2006 5:24 PM

One of the Topp Twins, well known entertainment duo, has been given a diagnosis of breast cancer.

Jools Topp, 48, one of the duo with her sister Lynda, is recovering from surgery and is set to begin chemotherapy treatment during the next few weeks.

Topp said that her association with the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation's charity fashion event In the Pink, made her conscious of getting suspicious breast lumps checked immediately and her prompt action may have saved her life.

According to her cancer is a challenge, the way of coping is to take one step at a time while keeping a sense of humor about her situation.

She jokes that the experience may be fodder for a new show, and that with her recent mastectomy she is becoming more like one of her popular characters, Ken.

Jools advised other women to consider the importance of regular mammograms and early detection of breast cancer. She says that relating her experience with breast cancer is an attempt to try to remove some of the fear of the disease.

Topp says that often people are shocked by a cancer diagnosis, and she thinks this causes them unnecessary stress at a time when they need to be thinking positively.
