The dengue virus appears to be fast engulfing Uttar Pradesh's capital with 20 cases detected Saturday and 17 Friday.
"Of the 31 dengue-positive cases admitted to various government hospitals in the state's 32 affected districts, 20 were from Lucknow alone," V.S. Nigam, the spokesman of the state health department, told IANS.
He said, "The figure in the state capital had risen particularly over the past four days, taking the tally to 97 in Lucknow, which now emerges as the worst affected district."
According to him: "Noida is the next in line with 78 cases, followed by Ghaziabad with 51 cases out of the state's overall tally of 391."
The toll on account of the deadly virus, however, remained at 11, he added.
State's principal health secretary A.K. Misra claimed, "All preventive and curative measures are in place throughout the state. Medicines are available in plenty at all levels and doctors have been asked to remain on alert to handle dengue cases on a priority basis."
