Biocon Launches Anti-Cancer Drug

Biocon has launched an anti-cancer drug called Biomab-EGFR and had Shah Rukh Khan at the ceremony in Bangalore. Biocon's CMD, Ms Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw told reporters that the drug would be priced at 40 percent of what similar drugs marketed by MNCs cost.

"Today we join the exclusive league of MAb developers worldwide. We want to be a key player in this segment," she added. She also told the drug was undergoing regulatory processes for South Asian markets, but the company would enter into partnerships to market it in Europe and America.

Biotech drugs such as Biomab-EGFR have shown to be effective in increasing survival rates than other chemo drugs. The drug is to combat head and neck cancers of which the Indian subcontinent has 30 percent overall incidence.
