Sex Determination Test Informers to be Rewarded

by Medindia Content Team on Sep 16 2006 10:54 AM

People who inform Haryana health department about illegal sex determination tests will be rewarded, officials said Thursday.

Health officials said informers would be given Rs.10,000 for every instance where information of sex determination tests or illegal abortion of fetus was found true.

Decoy customers used for detecting the illegal practice will also be given Rs.10,000.

Health authorities said show cause notices have been served on four ultrasound centres in Kaithal town for violating provisions of the Pre Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PNDT) Act.

If these centres fail to furnish satisfactory replies their registration will be cancelled and their ultrasound machines will be sealed. Anand ultrasound centre, Apollo diagnostic centre, Modern diagnostic centre and Sanjay ultrasound centre have been served notices.

The charge against these centres is they did not maintain a record of pregnant women patients, leading to suspicion that the tests were done for sex determination.
