US Marshals in a raid seize $55,000 worth of unapproved dietary supplements in the form of capsules.

It had been reported that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) agency had requested for the raid. It was found that the Advantage Nutraceuticals L.L.C distributed the capsules.

Sources have indicated that the seized capsules, which are supposedly in violation of new drug and misbranding provisions of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act, include, Coral Max capsules, Coral Max without Iron capsules, and Advanced Arthritis Support. It was explained that these products that have though been labelled as ‘dietary supplements’ were in reality being promoted and sold with claims, which were typically associated with drug products.

The FDA have stated that the violation was very evident in the way in which the products have been labelled, which includes various promotional literature, an audio cassette tape, and two Internet Web sites that are owned and used by the firm.

Cautioning the consumers the FDA is advising them to consult their physician if they are taking these products. It was reported that Advantage Nutraceutical’s have labelled these products for the promoting and marketing them for serious disease conditions, which includes cancer, arthritis, fibromyalgia and seizures. The FDA have stated that these products do not provide enough directions on as to how they are to be used and they consider these drugs as unapproved new drugs.
