Hospitals spring into action after doctors call off strike

New Delhi: The services at the government-managed hospital in the capital were restored and most hospitals were spilling with patients, following the cessation of the strike by resident doctors. The Doctors and students of medical colleges, Delhi University, Indraprastha University, called off the strike after the Lok Sabha Speaker passed on the reservation bill to the Parliament’s Standing Committee.

This move did not deter the resident doctors at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) who observed a black day to mark their protest against the unbecoming behavior of the police with their colleagues in Mumbai, Kolkata and Rajasthan.

AIIMS Resident Doctors' Association president Binod Patra said, “We will join hands with the protesters there in case we feel they need our help. We will soon be holding a general body meeting with representatives from all the five medical colleges of the Capital along with students from Indraprastha University and Delhi University to decide on the next course of action. We will also seek legal opinion on the Bill. We are hoping that we won't have to protest on the streets again or allow patients to suffer."
