A three-month-old Bangladeshi baby got a new lease of life in Delhi after doctors here in a leading private hospital performed a critical but successful heart operation upon him.
Toqi Ahmid, from Dhaka underwent the five-hour long open-heart surgery in Fortis Hospital on July 31 and will be discharged Saturday."When the baby came to our hospital, the different chambers and veins of his heart were conjoined. It was a complicated operation as the case was very rare. Had there been no surgery, the child would have not lived for long," said T. S. Mahant, the doctor who operated upon the baby.
Mahant a renowned cardio-thoracic surgeon of the country said the heart was prematurely developed, which was restricting the growth of the child.
"The baby was suffering from a rare congenital heart defect but after the surgery he is completely out of danger. Now he will certainly live a healthy life," Mahant Told IANS.
The cost of the operation was Rs. 150,000.
A pleased Shajan Chowdhury, the father of the kid said that they are grateful to the doctors for saving the lives of their son. He said his brother had suggested him to avail treatment in Escorts hospital but due some delay, I opted for Fortis.
