Health Care Waiting Period Waived for Evacuees from Lebanon in Ontario
Canadians returning to Ontario from Lebanon will not have to wait for access to public health care.

The provincial government has said that it will waive the mandatory three-month waiting period for OHIP coverage for the new arrivals.

According to the Health Minister George Smitherman the evacuees have undergone a lot of stress and strain and will have access to the "health care they need when they need it the most."

The evacuees were advised to apply for Medical Service Plan coverage as soon as possible.

The Health Ministy has advised that people with family returning from the Middle East having questions regarding eligibility should call the Health Ministry information line at 1-866-255-2292.

In addition psychological counselling for those in need of emotional support can also contact the same number for assistance.

B.C and Quebec also made similar announcements. George Abbot, Health Minister in B.C said that the province wanted to ensure that things were as easy as possible for those who return to B.C. to find some sense of normalcy and support.
