According to a survey conducted by a charity organization it was shocking to find that about three-quarters of the people in UK are ignorant about the existence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

The general public said that they have never heard of the disease. COPD is UK’s fifth-biggest killer disease as it affects 3 million people in the UK and causes around 30,000 deaths a year. The medical charity organization called the Developing Patient Partnerships said that about 72% of people were unaware of the disease.

COPD kills more number of people those suffering from breast, prostate or bowel cancer. COPD is caused by smoking, other causes include chronic bronchitis and emphysema. Mostly people think that COPD is a minor disease and can be cured easily. Hence Developing Patient Partnerships has planned to create awareness about the disease by launching a campaign called Ever Smoked? The main aim of this campaign is to raise awareness of the disease and its symptoms and encourage people to quit smoking.
