Free Medical Care for Residents of San Francisco

by Medindia Content Team on Jul 19 2006 10:19 AM

A health care plan which covers everything from checkups, prescription drugs and X-rays to ambulance rides, blood tests and operations was approved unanimously by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors.

It is one of the first health care plans which offer adults to gain access to medical services regardless of their immigration or employment status. The plan is financially backed by the local government, compulsory contributions from employers and income-adjusted premiums. This plan which is aptly named so is a sweet surprise to all the residents of San Francisco.

This plan would not pay for any services that the patient seeks outside San Francisco. On the other hand the residents would receive all the care at their local clinics, public hospitals and from doctors who have registered with the HMO for low- and middle-income clients. Those companies that already offer health coverage would need to pay extra money in order to meet the city's funding levels.
