Human Rights Watch, an organization that keenly champions the battle against HIV /AIDS has come out hard against the abuses hurled at activists, which thwarts the efforts put in by such organizations.
Joe Amon, director of the HIV/AIDS program at Human Rights Watch said “Twenty-five years into the epidemic, people living with HIV or AIDS are still feared and stigmatized. We can’t defeat AIDS unless we end outrageous abuses against activists, outreach workers, people living with AIDS and those most vulnerable to infection.”Human Rights Watch has communicated the extent of abuse by listing out the innumerable cases when AIDS activists, outreach workers, and people living with HIV/AIDS have been physically abused, put in prison and even killed. According to Joe Amon, such incidents will cause a setback to the concerted efforts to combat HIV/AIDS. Even countries where there has been marked improvement will move backward instead of forward, with such impediments to efforts.
