Ayurvedic Treatment to be Focus of Conference

Panchakarma, an ayurvedic treatment method, will be the focus of a two-day conference being organised on the occasion of the All-India Ayurvedic Congress's centenary from tomorrow.

The conference, organised by the Tamil Nadu chapter of AIAC, will also focus on the demand for a government ayurvedic college in the state.

AIAC state president Dhanvantri Premvel told reporters here the body was stressing the need for starting Panchakarma wings in all district and taluk hospitals.

On the demand for starting a government ayurvedic college in the state, he said such a facility was there in neighbouring states To a question, he said the AIAC was of the view that there was a need for standardisation and a fight against quacks.

On the conference, he said it will be formally inaugurated by state Health and Family Welfare Minister K K S S R Ramachandran on June 16.

For the benefit of students, an herbal exhibition will be held where some raw drugs will be displayed. Leading ayurvedic pharmaceutical companies will participate in the exhibition, he said.

State Tourism Minister V Suresh Rajan will attend the concluding function.
